En bref· Quick answer
Bonjour Calgary is moderated by people. Everything you submit is reviewed before publication. Be respectful, be truthful, promote only in the places built for it, and submit events you are entitled to submit. Discrimination on any ground protected by Alberta law is not tolerated. Report a problem from any page and a moderator will act.
- Every submission is reviewed by a moderator before it appears. Nothing is published automatically.
- Discrimination or harassment on grounds protected by the Alberta Human Rights Act is a removal and a ban.
- Promotion belongs in the directory and the network, not in events, stories or corrections.
- Event submissions must come from the organizer or with the organizer's knowledge, and must carry a public source.
- Report any content by email to info@repyyc.com or through the corrections form.
Bonjour Calgary is a small, moderated space. There are no public comment threads, no direct messages and no user profiles. What there is: a community calendar, a directory, a professional network, stories, and a corrections process, all of which depend on what people send us. These guidelines explain what we accept and how we handle problems.
The short version
- Be respectful. Calgary’s French-speaking community spans continents, accents, faiths and family shapes. Write as if the person reading is a neighbour, because they are.
- Be truthful. Real events, real organizations, real dates, real sources. If you are not sure, say so in the notes field.
- Promote in the right place. The directory and the professional network exist for businesses and professionals. Events, stories and corrections are not advertising space.
- Submit what you are entitled to submit. Events come from the organizer or with the organizer’s knowledge. Stories are your own or told with the consent of the people in them.
- Respect copyright. Do not send us photos, logos or text you do not have the right to share.
Respect and non-discrimination
We do not publish, and we remove, content that demeans or excludes people on any ground protected by the Alberta Human Rights Act. The Alberta Human Rights Commission lists those grounds as mental and physical disability; gender, gender identity or gender expression; sexual orientation; race and colour; religious beliefs; ancestry and place of origin; age; marital and family status; and source of income. We apply the same standard to variety of French: no mocking of Quebec, Acadian, African, European or any other French, and no gatekeeping of who counts as a francophone.
Harassment of a person, including an organizer, a contributor or a member of the site team, ends the relationship with that submitter.
Events
An event submission needs a title, organizer, date and time, location or online link, price (or “free” or “see organizer”), language of the event, and a public source we can check: the organizer’s website, a ticket page or a public social-media post. We publish with the source visible and a last-checked date.
- Submit only your own events, or events where the organizer knows and agrees.
- Recurring events (a weekly conversation group, for example) are welcome; tell us the pattern.
- We accept events in French, in English about French-speaking Calgary, and bilingual events.
- Religious services are listed only in the directory as community resources, not promoted as events, unless they are cultural events open to all.
- Political party events are not listed. Civic events (a public consultation in French, a citizenship ceremony) may be.
- Anyone can flag an event as outdated or cancelled from the event itself. We check and update.
Directory and network
The directory lists organizations, businesses, professionals, schools, health services and public services that serve people in French in Calgary. Listings are factual: name, what they do, languages, contact details that are already public, source, review date. Anyone can suggest a listing or a correction.
The professional network, curated by Frank Clement, lists French-speaking professionals who apply and whose professional standing we can confirm (for example, a licence number that can be verified with the regulator). A listing is not an endorsement, and we say so on every profile. Paid placements, if they ever exist, will be labelled; see the advertising page.
Stories
We publish explainers written by the site team and, with consent, interviews and first-person stories. A story proposal is a conversation starter, not a publication. We never publish a person’s name, photo or story without their written agreement, and contributors can withdraw a story at any time.
Corrections
The corrections form is for errors and updates: a changed phone number, a closed program, a wrong date, a broken link. It is read by a moderator and the fix is logged. It is not a place to argue with an organization or to review a business.
Moderation, in practice
A person reads every submission. We check it against a public source, confirm it fits these guidelines, and then publish, ask you a question, or decline. We aim to answer within five business days; a volunteer-scale project sometimes takes longer.
Reporting a problem
To report any content on the site, email info@repyyc.com with the page address, or use the corrections form and choose “Report content”. Tell us what is wrong and, if you can, why. We acknowledge every report and act on the ones that break these guidelines: correct, remove, or in serious cases decline future submissions from the person responsible.
Consequences
Most issues are honest mistakes and are fixed with a reply. Repeated spam, impersonation, harassment or deliberately false information leads to removal of the content and refusal of further submissions. Illegal content is removed and, where appropriate, reported.
Changes
These guidelines will evolve as the community grows, especially if moderated discussion is introduced later. The last-reviewed date at the top tells you when they last changed.
Questions people ask
Can I post my business in an event?
An event can be hosted by a business (a café running a French conversation evening, for example) and we will say who hosts it. An advertisement dressed as an event is declined. Businesses belong in the directory, and French-speaking professionals in the network.
Do you publish events from other cities?
Only Calgary and the immediate region (Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere and similar), plus online events clearly open to Calgarians.
Why was my submission not published?
Usually because we could not verify it from a public source, it was outside Calgary, it duplicated an existing entry, or it broke these guidelines. We try to tell you which.
